God and Me on My Front Porch

The Lord said, “Be still, my child.” I countered, “But I have chores to do, devotionals to read, and many good works to attend.” He sweetly replied, “Pause. Be still. Trust Me and I will show you all that you need at this moment.”
Sometimes, when I hear God’s small, quiet voice in my head, I indulge in an extended “conversation” with Him. That was the case this morning. Starting off as usual on my front porch, I envisioned that His stopping by to visit might go something like this:

“Child of Mine, right now you need to hear the beautiful melody of the birds chirping and cooing. They sing for YOU. They crave your attention. Be still and listen.

You know that furry little rabbit that playfully made his way to the porch as you were sipping your morning coffee? I sent him specifically to break your reverie of planning. Be still and enjoy the moment.

The neighbor’s new rooster that crows around the clock—at bedtime, throughout the night, and early morning—his strained voice is my message for you to relax your attempt at control. Accept that life is full of disappointments and adjustments. Precious one, the louder you crow, ultimately, the less your voice is heard. You always have me to talk to. Be still and learn.

Notice the rustling of leaves on those mighty oak trees, as the wind gently wafts through the branches. See the glistening of dew on the spindly shoots sprouting from overgrown blades of grass. Note the interloping weeds in your usually-manicured flower garden. Those are all sent so you will keep in mind that life is not static, even though it may feel that way at times or you may even prefer that. Daughter, know that I am still here, ever present, laying out an abundance of opportunities before you. Be still and yield.

Finally, do you see that feisty little hummingbird dancing on the delicate blood red salvia just beyond your reach? He’s your gift today to remind you of beautiful memories from your past. Yes, you are welcome, beloved. Be still and savor.

Be still and trust Me. I always have your back.”

Psalm 46:10
