A Prayer for Families: Humility at The Shore

A Prayer for Families: Humility at The Shore

At lunch today, Sam's fortune cookie said, "Those full of pride become deaf and mute." He asked, "What does this mean?" I told him it means when we are full of ourselves, we don't care what anyone has to say and we think we are better than other people and don't even talk to them. He said, Hey, that's just like our lesson last week at The Shore.

He was right. We are coming to an end of our spring session of
The Shore. We have been studying prayer. Prayer begins with PRAISE, in the presence of God, we recognize the need to REPENT. After we repent, we find God as one who can be approached. We listen to Him; only after listening do we ASK.  In all things, We YIELD.

Last we, we learned that to yield means, I yield my pride, power, and preferences to what God wants. It finally clicked for Sam today when he read that fortune cookie. We have had a great time at
The Shore and look forward to a great ending. Over the next couple weeks, I want to encourage our NPC Family to be praying for our kids, grand-kids, nieces/nephews, or even that wild child you see running down the hall. Join me as we pray through scripture and ask God to mold the hearts of our children and ours as well.

"Lord, those who exalt themselves will be humbled
and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
If there is any pride in my child’s heart, I ask that You would reveal it and give
them a desire to get rid of it. I pray that, even in his/her youth,
they would be willing to put others first. I ask that they
would realize how much he/she has to learn so he/she is teachable
and willing to learn Your ways. Most importantly, I pray they
would recognize his/her own sinfulness and see his/her need for
forgiveness. Please help them to understand
that, in Your kingdom, humility comes before honor

In our home we honor You as King and promise to
serve You and others, not ourselves. It is because
of Your kindness, love and mercy that we are saved,
through the washing of Your Holy Spirit.
In humility we pray “not to us, but to Your name
be the glory, because of Your love and faithfulness.”
It is our desire to honor You by having
servant hearts like Yours, Lord Jesus. "

"Amen."
